automotive auto safety technologiesHow far behind a car should you place emergency flares or triangles?
Considering this, how far do you put emergency flares or triangles?
A device should be placed 100 to 500 feet from the vehicle in the direction of the obstruction.
Warning Device Placement
- Three bidirectional emergency reflective triangles,
- Six flares capable of burning for 30 minutes, or.
- Three liquid burning flares that contain enough fuel to burn continuously for at least 60 minutes.
Correspondingly, how far should you place a warning triangle from your car?
Place a Highway Code hazard triangle (or similar vehicle breakdown sign) on the same side of the road of any carriageway. Note: A warning triangle distance from car should be at least 45 meters (147 feet) and placed behind the vehicle.
Set out appropriate flares, lamps, lanterns or portable reflectors as required by the Highway Traffic Act at a distance of approximately 30 metres (100 ft) in advance of the vehicle and 30 metres (100 ft) to the rear. They must be visible from 150 metres (500 ft) in each direction.
