Is a bigger subwoofer enclosure better?

32
a bigger box makes it louder at a note just above the tunning hz. but the other notes it will not be as loud. it makes the box peak more and be loud in a smaller area other than many notes.

Then, does a bigger box make more bass?

A bigger sealed box will give you lower bass than a smaller sealed box but you lose much of the tightness in the bass.

does subwoofer enclosure shape matter? If you get into it deeply, the shape does matter. In fact there is a magic ratio that has been formulated that gives the best case for a particular enclosure side. When you get further in to box design, standing waves all play a part in the final outcome. and shape dones definatley have an effect.

Additionally, what happens if your subwoofer box is too big?

A bigger box will have less overall output; but may have more output at lower frequencies due to it's increased low frequency extension. But, if you go too big, you'll loose both overall output and low frequency output (extension).

How big should my subwoofer box be?

A good rule of thumb is to add at least 2 to 3 inches to the size of the subwoofer. For example, a 10-inch sub should have a front panel at least 12 to 13 inches square. Size the depth of the box to create the volume you require for your box.

Are 2 12 inch subs loud?

Typically the the two 12's will play louder, because there is more cone area moving air than one 15. It is true that the larger cone can typically play lower frequencys, but in a car it's not noticable enough to make a difference. The two 12's on a good amp should be able to bump loud and deep enough for anybody.

Does porting a sub box make it louder?

Undoubtedly, ported boxes can deliver louder, booming bass with more punch and reverberance than sealed boxes. This is easily achieved with a ported subwoofer box without using any additional sound equalizer or digital processor.

How can I make my subwoofer louder?

Step 4: The Amp
  1. Turn the Gain/volume knob to zero or all the way down.
  2. Play a song with a middle amount of bass. Not too heavy not too light.
  3. Turn the volume on the head unit to 80% of its max volume.
  4. Increase the Gain/volume until the sub begins to distort.
  5. Slightly decrease the gain to remove remaining distortion.

Is a ported box louder than sealed?

If you like your music “boomy”, vibrating your car's body panels, you want to consider a ported (vented) enclosure. These types of enclosures, when built with the properly calculated volume and tuned to the correct frequency for the subwoofer, are generally louder than a sealed enclosure.

What size sub is best?

If this is your preference, then a subwoofer is an absolute must. The 15″ sub is the best for moving the large volume of air required to reproduce this type of music. A factory speaker, or even the best aftermarket 6 x9, is no match for these demanding notes.

Can a subwoofer port be too long?

There's really nothing wrong with having a long port, and 30" really isn't too terribly long. Granted, a shorter port is better because there's less resistance going down a shorter port, but at the same time you need adequate port area for the subs you're using.

What happens if a ported box is too big?

Box size is entirely power dependant. A ported box is only too big when the subwoofer(s) can no longer effectively compress the air within it. So when it comes to ported boxes, the more power you have, the bigger the box can be (while still being effective).

How do I make my sub box hit harder?

How to Make Subwoofers Hit Harder
  1. Choose the correct amplifier for the subwoofer. Every type of subwoofer requires a certain power output by an amplifier.
  2. Install the subwoofer in a bandpass box. A bandpass box is a type of subwoofer box that, when used with certain subwoofers, can maximize sound output.

What happens if subwoofer enclosure is too small?

anyway, if your box is too small you need to run higher wattage to the speaker. The small size of the box makes it harder for the speaker to move.

What is subwoofer unloading?

Unloading is what subs do in vented enclosures when run below the tuning frequency of the port. When unloading, the sub has no back pressure from the enclosure and excurts uncontrollably acting as if it were in free air.

Can you port a sealed speaker box?

Sealed boxes do the job, but to really get the most from your subwoofer, you should look into something ported. It increases the air movement within the box for a louder, lower output, making it sound deeper and “boomier.” You can buy them ported from us or do it on your own.

How does box size affect subwoofer sound?

A smaller box increases the Q of the system and causes a peek in the resonance. It may sound boomier at that frequency. A smaller box also provides more air spring and controlls the woofer more at other freqeuncies, thus sounding tighter and reducing the cone excursion and increasing power handling.

Do subwoofers need to be in a box?

Every sub needs an enclosure in order to perform, and the type of enclosure (also simply called a box) you choose for yours will have the biggest impact on the kind of bass reproduction you get. The two most common types of enclosure are sealed and ported.

Why is there a hole in subwoofer?

The hole in the subwoofer box works in a similar way, except it is the woofer driver that trigger the resonance and not the turbulence from the blowing air across the bottle opening. It is a way of utilize the rear side of the woofer driver to extend the frequency response in the lower frequency range.
