Moon Sand Recipe
The ratio to make moon sand is simple – 8 cups of all purpose flour : 1 cup of vegetable oil. I decided to quarter that recipe and make smaller batches of moon sand and add a half a teaspoon of tempera powdered paint before combining it all together.

Magic sand or hydrophobic sand is a toy made from sand coated with a hydrophobic compound. The presence of this hydrophobic compound causes the grains of sand to adhere to one another and form cylinders (to minimize surface area) when exposed to water.

ExplainerHow do you make moon sand?
The recipe is simple: 8 cups of flour & 1 cup of oil (we used baby oil). Mix it up really well until all of the oil is incorporated into the flour. It will still look like flour (albeit full of teeny tiny lumps from the bits of oil), but it is moldable just like Moon Sand!

HOMEMADE KINETIC SAND RATIO
To make this kinetic sand recipe, just remember the ratio 5:3:1. That way, whether you have a measuring cup, or just a little container or scoop, you can get the ratio right. It's 5 parts sand, to 3 parts cornstarch (you can also sub flour for the cornstarch), and 1 part oil.Bohdana Fleyschmann

ExplainerIs Moon Sand and kinetic sand the same?
Nope, the most remarkable property of kinetic sand is the "kinetic" part, that makes the sand to be in constant movement. With the Moon sand, whatever you build will stay the same. About texture, moon sand is a bit more "rubber-ish" than KS.

ExplainerDoes the moon have sand?
Lunar sand is made of minerals also found on Earth, but because there's no atmosphere, liquid water, or wind, “there's no traditional or conventional way in which [moon] sand erodes,” he says, so it looks “very, very different” than anything found on our planet.

ExplainerIs there a difference between play sand and regular sand?
The simple answer to this is that play sand is a less coarse, much finer version of builders sand that has been through certain processes to make sure it is safe for children to play with. Sand is a natural material that has been around for many years and is literally made up of ground down rocks.

ExplainerCan magic sand get wet?
When ordinary sand gets wet, the result is a clumpy mess. However, “Magic Sand” begins as normal looking sand, until it's coated with a substance that repels water. This special coating keeps the sand dry even after it has been dumped into a container of water.

ExplainerHow is sand formed?
Sand is typically made mostly of varying amounts of material weathered from inland rocks (or seacliff material) and transported to the beach on the wind or in rivers, and/or shells and other hard parts precipitated out of the ocean water by marine organisms. Sand therefore records processes at a variety of timescales.
